Late morning we shifted gears........decided to have a coffee here on the terrace and then think about a trip into the mountains this afternoon. Time will tell!
Guess what........the trip to the mountains did not make it into the afternoon agenda. Fair to say there is a difference of opinion on the excitement of driving up curvy mountain roads with precipitous drops into the ravines below.
Instead we settled for a trip into Sori and Recco to do a little more exploring of these towns......and their flat beaches! Sori ended up being a bit boring, but we checked out the beach and the Sunday afternoon activities. Recco was quite a bit more energized, with a huge clothing market along the beach vialle. There must have been 50 mobil 'trucks' with awnings, and every imaginable clothing purveyor. Nothing really appealed to us, but it was clearly bargain pricing. We settle for a gelato!
The afternoon temperatures rose quite a bit and it became very humid, particularly when the sun was shining. We headed back to the Villa dei Pini with the AC blasting in the car, and also cranked it up in the room. I ended up deciding to go for a swim at the smaller Bogliasco beach area. It is a small opening in the rocks about 100' wide, and is down a steep staircase (at least 10 stories of grade change). It was fairly crowded in that small space, probably 25 or 30 people enjoying the rocky beach. I found a place to leave my towel and shirt and got into the water quickly. It was amazingly refreshing, and few people were actually in the water - so not crowded at all.
Tonight was a night that was "time off" for the staff, so the Foundation had arranged dinner at a local restaurant. We met at 7:00 in the living room and I brought a bottle of prosecco, which worked out well as everyone had a small glass. The walk to the restaurant was about 20 minutes, so we left around 7:30.
The evening was lively and the food was good. We all turned in a bit early after that late night yesterday.
